Social Responsibility

We can make a difference

Liberty Promenade stands as a beacon of hope for the communities of Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha. Whilst we present a vibrant retail destination of fun and fashion, we also understand our significant role as a valuable community resource. We are proud of this status and recognise that our success relies on the support of our community. It is why we are motivated to give back when and where we can in meaningful ways to those who need our support.

An example of our community spirit is perfectly illustrated by our 2011 Baby Duvet project. All those decorative 2010 World Cup Soccer country flags continue to warm the hearts of a community, in a very different way. After the  Soccer World Cup, Liberty
Promenade approached two special ladies from within the greater Mitchells Plain community to make baby duvets from the flags.  And so a project was borne. Sally Sprinkle from Strandfontein Crafters and Jenny Payne from Weltevreden Creative Ladies, with the help of 16 other talented ladies from their associations, created 118 baby duvets and 13 small pillows which were then donated  to children’s homes and edu-care centres within the community.

Then there is Liberty Promenade’s quest to do our bit to save our planet. Our Generation Green project was developed to generate an awareness of the importance of caring for our environment amongst the youth of the Mitchells Plain and Strandfontein areas.

Generation Green is an art competition aimed at primary and secondary schools in our community. School children are invited to submit posters displaying environmentally-friendly tips. The posters are displayed in the centre and shoppers are invited to vote
for their favourite poster using their till slips. The two winning posters each receive improvements to their school premises to the value of R25,000 each.  The improvements to the winning schools are carried out by suppliers contracted to the centre who work free of charge so stretching the R25 000 even further. Generation Green was launched in 2009 and is an annual project.
